A luxury countryside stay in idyllic Galloway.

A stylish farmhouse and chic rural bolthole deep in the idyllic Galloway countryside; heaven for outdoorsy folk (sleeps 12).

The Holm, Galloway

Deep in the heart of the Galloway Hills, surrounded by rolling countryside and dry stone walls, this stylish farmhouse is perfect for a family or group self-catering break in Scotland. The farmhouse has been carefully renovated with comfort at its core - cosy interiors, contemporary mod cons, and heritage antiques combine to create a beautifully light and welcoming haven for you to enjoy.

At almost 150 years old, the house is filled with quirks and charming corners; the old stone walls, white-washed facade, and original furniture have stories to tell, while sash windows frame distant hilly peaks.

This is rural Scotland at its very best, where slow-paced country life is immersed in fresh air, walking trails, local cafes, and cosy pubs. And with mile-upon-mile of wild moorland, forest trails, and craggy hills all on your doorstep, there are endless opportunities for adventure.

It’s an idyllic spot a world away from the hectic pace of modern life. Here, the only noise you’ll hear is birdsong and bleating sheep, the views are firmly rural, and there are few signs of modern life.

The farmhouse itself is a sanctuary of calm, with impressive double-height windows in the fully equipped kitchen, cosy interiors, including five beautiful bedrooms, modern bathrooms, and a lounge with a roaring fire. Perfect for an extended family or a group of friends, The Holm is the perfect base from which to enjoy some of Scotland’s best outdoor pursuits.

In the area

  • Choose from any number of beautiful countryside trails, including Ness Glen, Dundeugh Forest, and Glen Trool.

  • Or pull on your hiking boots and hike into the Galloway Ranges; Cairnsmore (797m) and Corserine (814m) are our favourites. You’ll find maps in the farmhouse reading nook.

  • For longer hikes, join the Southern Upland Way path.

  • Head to the farmhouse’s river for a wild swim, with a wide pebbled beach.

  • We loved our dinner at Clachan Inn, a 10-minute drive away. Seriously upmarket pub grub.

  • Explore the region’s dramatic castles, grand houses, and pretty gardens - we recommend Culzean Castle, Dumfries House, Sanquhar Castle, Loch Doon Castle, and Drumlanrig Castle & Gardens.

  • Hire mountain bikes and tackle the thrilling trails, twists, and turns at nearby 7Stanes.

  • You’re in the heart of the Galloway Dark Skies Park, one of just 13 locations worldwide with a ‘dark sky’ status due to its low light and air pollution. Stargazing here is magical.
