Visiting Dundee, Scotland

Dundee is one of those cities that has flourished in recent years, and you’re going to wish you’d visited sooner. Tucked away on the East Coast, the city has preserved its heritage amongst its historic mill buildings, a vibrant cultural scene, incredible food, and a coffee scene that rivals that of anywhere in the country.

After countless trips between Edinburgh and Inverness, I finally made a point of detouring to Dundee - and fell firmly in love with this often underrated city.

Dundee Guide

Sitting on the banks of the River Tay, Dundee has a distinctly unique character. There’s enough to do here that you can easily fill a long weekend, and the best way to visit the city is to base yourself in the centre.

This is where you’ll find Dundee’s boutique stays and hotels, incredible eateries, wine bars, excellent cafes, and coffee shops. Plus, the city’s museums, galleries, activities, and attractions.

Dundee has a rich history; some controversial, almost all industrial. You’ll spot mill buildings across the city, and the Verdant Works jute museum should be on your list of places to visit.

If you’re looking for a coastal day trip, Broughty Ferry is a picturesque hop along the coast with Montrose and Arbroath just a little further. While the rolling hills of Angus and historic Glamis Castle are also within easy reach.
