Getaways With the DB Essential Weekender Bag

When it comes to weekend breaks, good luggage can make or break your trip.

It needs to be big enough to fit your travel essentials, yet small enough to carry between your transport and hotel. Earlier this year I spent a weekend in Edinburgh, and I travelled with the Db Essential Weekender bag - and needless to say, I was instantly sold.

Since then, this versatile piece of luggage has come on pretty much every trip I’ve taken this year, from weekends spent in the Scottish Highlands to winter breaks in Copenhagen.

So, here’s a look at the brand, the features of the bag, and why I think the Db Essential Weekender is the perfect travel companion.

This post contains a gifted item and affiliate links - however, all opinions are my own and I only recommend products I truly love.

Meet Db

When I first saw who was behind this weekender, I knew immediately it would be well designed. Founded in Norway by a skier and an engineer, they set out to create a line of travel gear that would create easy and amazing journeys.

The result is a range of highly functional and stylish luggage, from weekender bags to backpacks, duffels, and suitcases. The material used to create Db luggage is incredibly high-quality and stands up to the rigors of travel - whether long days on the road, transporting outdoor gear, or exploring around town.

These travel bags are built for adventure, and it shows.

The Essential Weekender 40L

The 40l Essential Weekender has quickly become my go-to bag for both city breaks and road trips. Made of lightweight yet durable and water-resistant material, it’s the perfect size for throwing into the back of your car or carrying through town.

Space

Inside, the Db Essential Weekender is incredibly spacious (40L) with a large compartment accessed by an extra-long zip. There’s also an internal mesh pocket that’s well sized for your small items, like phone, earbuds, or passport.

I managed to fit a weekend’s worth of chunky sweaters, jeans, gloves, toiletries, trainers, my laptop & charger, tripod, water bottle, and a book, plus a handful of other small accessories. And I had some room to spare!

And because the zip is so long and opening wide, its easy to rummage around and find things.

Straps & comfort

When it comes to carrying, you have two options which I think is a wonderful design feature and where this bag really wins over traditional duffels.

Choose to carry the bag over your shoulder using the long handles. Or use the removable and fully adjustable strap to transform this weekender into a crossbody bag; this is generally my preferred option because I can move through town and keep my hands free.

Plus the foam padding means it stays comfortable on your shoulders, something often lacking in weekenders.

Design

The design is clean and simple, no fuss but highly functional. Personally, I love the Fogbow beige colour and minimal aesthetic. But there’s also moss green and black options if you’d prefer something a little darker.

Best of all, the base of the Db Essential Weekender is structured, meaning it won’t sag or loose its shape. Even it’s only half full, the bag stays rigid which is handy for rummaging!

Where to use it

Whilst this bag is slightly oversized for airline hand luggage, I’ve used it on road trips, train journeys, staycations, city breaks, client photoshoots, and hiking weekends - and it has been perfect for each.

It was also ideal for a weekend trip to Copenhagen, where it easily rolled into my hold luggage. A after arriving in the airport, I pulled out the Weekender and used it whilst moving around the city and between hotels. Honestly, this weekender is a hard worker!

The padded strap means it stays comfortable whilst you’re on the move, which is a bonus for travel luggage.
